Jean Pierre Wagnon was in Alsace, France in the early 1700s. John Peter Wagnon fought in the Revolutionary War with the Georgia
Militia. We have not found any document that says these two people were one and the same, but it is strongly believed that they are. Guy Bise from Switzerland says that if we can show they are the same, he can trace the ancestry back to the 1500s.
The earliest record we have John Peter Wagnon is in SC. The Wagnon’s migrated into GA, AL, MS, LA, AR and TX. My grandfather, Martin Houston Wagnon was a Methodist minister, and served in the Indian Territory. There is information in the Drew University Library about these ministers. I suspect that he will be mentioned there, but have not researched further.
My Mother was born in Sinton, TX, in 1910. I have found that my grandparents ran a hotel in Sinton, TX, with another couple . I wrote the Chamber of Commerce in Sinton, but they have no information on the hotel (which is no longer in existence.) I did find a postcard in my Mother’s belongings that had a picture of the hotel. How they happened to end up in Sinton is another mystery, which probably will not be solved.
A Wagnon Photo from my Childhood
I spent much of my early childhood living with Grandmother
and Grandfather Wagnon after Hugh returned the family to
OK. I’m seen here seated next to my older brother, Dale, my
Uncle Clyde, my Aunt Dorothy, and two people I cannot
identify. Until I was five, I believed my grandparents were my
parents, and Hugh, Dorothy, Clyde, and Mother were our
siblings, since we called our mother, Ruth, as young children.
